True Identity Pt. 2

True Identity Pt.2 by Dr. Jim Wilbur, Executive Chaplain

“But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, rely on) His Name [Jesus].”
John 1:12 Amplified Bible

In this verse it is clear that when we receive Jesus as our Savior and repent (change the way we think) of our sin’s we are immediately adopted into the family of God. No matter how you feel at any given time this truth remains- You are loved and accepted by God.

I want to share with you several scripture verses that have helped me renew my mind and transformed my life. These verses are about who you really are and how God feels about you all the time as you continue to trust Him.

Truth #1 You have been created in the image and likeness of God.

God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.” Genesis 1:26 ( The Message Bible )

Truth #2 When I fail God will not abandon me.

Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” Hebrews 13:5 (The Message Bible)

Truth #3 I can have confidence that God loves and accepts me.

Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son. Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! Ephesians 1:5-7 (The Message Bible)

True Identity

True Identity by Dr. Jim Wilbur, Executive Chaplain

When you begin to live in the reality of who you are in Jesus Christ, not even hell can stop you. When you become fully aware of the righteousness (Right standing with God) you have, temptation cannot destroy you. Personal failure cannot hold you back from your purpose and destiny that you were created for. Condemnation is not able to hold you captive any longer when you stand in the truth of who you are.

Your identity as a son or daughter of the Father gives you access and ability to live in this present world, even as He (Jesus) lived in this world. When you live in the awareness of your true identity you become confident that you are able to live life as a King-Priest anointed (given God’s ability) to rule over the powers of darkness and to minister (give away) truth that leads to life to those around you.

The Father is encouraging you today right where you are at to: OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE WONDER OF WHO YOU ARE! As you continue daily (for most it is moment to moment) to live and move and have your being in Jesus Christ, you are forever secure in your position and place as a son or daughter of Righteousness.

One of the Biggest Keys to help me live in this reality is…

To keep my focus on who God is to me (He is good) and who I am in Him (true identity.) This is a far superior way to live versus constantly focusing on behavior modification as an indication of how well I am doing. This I believe is the key to living a life of fullness, forgiveness, and freedom.

In the next few weeks I will share with you core scripture verses that will help you to renew (change) the way that you see God and yourself as you are becoming more like Him every single day.

“But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, rely on) His Name [Jesus].”  John 1:12 Amplified Bible
