How to love God More Pt. 2 by Dr. Jim Wilbur, Executive Chaplain
I wanted to share with you a few more truths that will help you in your growth as a believer in Jesus Christ. Especially when Satan tries to come and bring doubt and lies that try and get you to think that you don’t measure up when you fail.
Which of these statements will motivate you to love God more?
1. God is faithful only when I am faithful to him.
2. God’s love for you is so forgiving and compassionate that He still is faithful to you even when you are not faithful to Him. God’s commitment to you is greater than your commitment to Him.
Here is what the Bible says about it: These are from the Message Bible
2 Timothy 2:13
If we give up on him, he does not give up— for there’s no way he can be false to himself.
Romans 3:3-4
So, what if, in the course of doing that, some of those Jews abandoned their post? God didn’t abandon them. Do you think their faithlessness cancels out his faithfulness? Not on your life! Depend on it: God keeps his word even when the whole world is lying through its teeth. Scripture says the same: Your words stand fast and true; Rejection doesn’t faze you. When you know that God will never leave you and when you fail He desires to express His love to you. He also unconditionally accepts you the moment you put your trust in Him. You should from that point live free from the fear of punishment because God loves and accepts you.
We know it so well, we’ve embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God. To Love, to Be Loved God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s.
There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love. 1 John 4:16-18
